Camp Balcones Summer Camp finds a new home at Emma Long Park

Camp Fire Summer Camp finds a new home and a new name.

Camp Fire's premier Summer STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering , and Math) Day Camp has found a new home at Emma Long Metropolitan Park. Thanks to a new partnership with the Austin Parks and Recreation Department, Camp Fire Summer Campers will learn and play at one central location for the first time. Camp Fire Executive Director Barbara Dunnam said that the partnership with Austin Parks and Recreation at Emma Long means "Camp Fire will now be able to launch Camp Balcones, the first all-inclusive, nature-based STEM Camp here in Central Texas. Camp Balcones not only connects young people to nature, but provides a truly traditional camp experience." The 10-week long Summer Day Camp incorporates five unique weekly STEM-based themes, incorporating hands-on, project based activities for children ages 5-12 years old. In addition to STEM-based learning, campers will take part in many activities now made available from Emma Long Park, such as swimming, hiking, fishing, boating, archery, and nature crafts. Over 400 children are expected to take part in Camp Balcones this summer. Summer Camp helps prevent summer learning loss and teaches children how to develop the leadership skills they will carry for life. The first week of camp begins on Monday, June 5. You can register your child online here.
