Afterschool Instructor and Tutor Positions Available

We offer a low student-to-instructor ratio of 1:12 and a tutoring ratio of 1:3.

Please read below to learn more about the duties and work of our direct instruction team.

 

Essential Functions:

​

  • Learn, understand, and deliver Camp Fire curriculum to youth in a non-traditional learning environment.

  • Plan and teach outdoor recreation classes to youth enrolled in Camp Fire Afterschool programs.

  • Engage students in learning in an indoor and outdoor environment.

  • Create a calendar of events.

  • Communicate effectively with appropriate school administrators and parents/guardians of youth.

  • Document progress and maintain accurate records

  • Plan, organize, and prep for classroom activities, field trips, and other outings as approved by the Afterschool Program Director.

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

Education/Certification

  • Current CPR and First Aid certification

  • High school diploma. Preferred bachelor’s degree or above in a field related to youth development, recreation, or education.

Required Knowledge:

  • Knowledge and skills required to create  and implement a work plan

  • Knowledgeable in group work and facilitation, conflict resolution and behavior management

Required Experience:

  • Experience working with children and youth

  • Experience teaching

 

Skills:

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to prioritize  and manage multiple tasks

  • Team player and committed professional

  • Must foster a safe positive environment for youth

Behavioral Competencies: 

  • Flexible regarding time  and availability

  • Ability to work independently

  • Dedicated to the success of Camp Fire Central Texas program model

  • Accept supervision and guidance

 

Preferred:

  • Experience guiding youth in service learning

  • Experience teaching youth in the field of outdoor recreation and/or leading wilderness experiences

  • Knowledge and interest in environmental conservation

  • Bi-lingual in Spanish & English

 

Attendance Requirements

  • 12- 15 hours per week, may include evenings and weekends

  • Ability to commit to at least one semester as an Instructor
